Brigadier General Thomas Waldhauser

Career Achievements

  • Upon graduation he was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps.

  • He served on active duty with the Marines today and will be permanently promoted to the rank of Brigadier General.

  • During his career, Brigadier General (Select) Waldhauser has held numerous Staff and Command assignments overseas as well as in the United States.

  • Some of the Staff assignments include tours with the U S Navy, Instructor Duty at the Marine Corps' Amphibious Warfare School, and as Operations Officer with Commander US Marine Forces at sea aboard the USS Blue Ridge during Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm.

  • He has had additional Staff assignments with II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, Headquarters Marine Corps, Washington DC and the Joint Staff Combating Terrorism Directorate at the Pentagon in Washington DC.

  • His Command assignments include tours with Marine Corps Reconnaissance units, Company and Battalion Command in Marine Corps' operational forces and most recently as the Commanding Officer of the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit (Special Operations Capable) at Camp Pendleton, California.

  • During this tour with the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit which is a task organized and forward deployed Marine Air/Ground Task Force, Brigadier General (Select) Waldhauser led his Marines during combat operations in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan and also in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom in Iraq.

Personal Achievements

  • Graduated from Bemidji State University in 1976. During his time at Bemidji State, he obtained a degree in psychology and also lettered four straight years for the men's ice hockey team.

  • Brigadier General (select) Waldhauser has attended various military schools during his career to include the Marine Corps' Command and Staff College and the National War College where he earned a Master's Degree in National Security Strategies.

  • Brigadier General (Select) Waldhauser's personal decorations include the Defense Superior Service Medal, Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal with three gold stars, Navy Achievement Medal with one Gold Star and the Combat Action Ribbon.
