Application Deadline
All Students: February 1
What is the Alumni Relative Scholarship program?
The program is sponsored by the Bemidji State University Alumni Association and provides scholarships to students attending BSU who are relatives of active alumni. Scholarships are made possible by the alumni of BSU who contribute to the University Fund.
What is the amount of each scholarship and how many are there?
Scholarships are awarded in increments of $750, allocated in halves for each semester of the academic year. The Alumni Association Board of Directors approved scholarships to be awarded to new, entering students and returning students during the current academic year.
Increases in giving by Bemidji State University alumni have made possible the growth of our scholarship program.
Who can apply for an Alumni Relative Scholarship?
To apply for a scholarship, the candidate must meet the following qualifications:
How do I find out if the candidate's relative is an active member of the BSU Alumni Association?
Call or write the Alumni Office. Be prepared to give the full name of the alumnus with correct spelling, address and social security number. At that time, you will be told if the alumnus is active or not.
What if the candidate's relative who is an alumnus of BSU is NOT an active member of the BSU Alumni Association?
The relative can become active by making a tax deductible contribution of $50 or more to the BSU Foundation before the application deadline. Contributions can be mailed to: BSU Foundation, 1500 Birchmont Drive NE #17, Bemidji, MN 56601-2699. Checks should be made payable to: BSU Foundation.
How are the scholarship winners selected?
The Alumni Relative Scholarship is highly competitive. A scholarship committee made up of alumni from the Board of Directors of the Alumni Association review all scholarship applications. The committee considers each section of the application and judges it on a predetermined point scale. When selecting scholarship winners, the committee will take special care in considering ALL areas of ability, talent and circumstance.
If a candidate applied and/or received an Alumni Relative Scholarship last year, do they need to re-apply again?
Yes! A candidate must re-apply for scholarship dollars each academic year.
