Bemidji State University Graduate 1964 & 1966Originally from Rochester, Minnesota, Tom transferred to Bemidji State and completed a degree in physical education and social studies. While a student, he earned two letters in hockey as a defenseman and was captain of the 1963-64 team. Tom also earned two letters in tennis and was the team captain his senior year. He coached hockey at Superior, Wisconsin, for four years and his teams were the Wisconsin High School champions in 1969 and 1970. He then served as the assistant hockey coach at the University of Minnesota from 1970 to 1973. Since 1973, he has been the head hockey coach at Jefferson High School in Bloomington where he has compiled a record of 213-80-14. His teams have been conference champions four years, regional champions five years, and Minnesota state high school champions in 1981. His Jefferson teams have appeared in five state tournaments, where in addition to the 1981 championship they have finished 3rd once, 4th twice, and 6th once. He has also been the head tennis coach since 1980 and his teams have compiled a 62-33 record. In 1981 Tom was named Lake Conference Coach of the Year and also Minnesota State High School Hockey Coach of the Year.
