Bemidji State University Graduate 1972Coming from her hometown of Thief River Falls, MN, Ms. Dorn attended and received a comprehensive Bachelor of Science Degree in health, physical education and recreation from BSU in 1972 and a Master of Arts in physical education and athletic administration from the University of Minnesota in 1977. She has also completed graduate work toward a Doctorate in physical education. Prior to receiving her Master's Degree, Ms. Dorn taught and coached at Crookston High School in Crookston, MN. Upon completion of her master's, Ms. Dorn began a 29 year career in athletic administration at North Dakota State University in Fargo, serving as the interim women's athletic director from 1977 until she was awarded the position on a permanent basis in February of 1979. She is still serving in this position today and has also held additional administrative responsibilities during the past 26 years. During her tenure as Women's Athletic Director, NDSU women's teams have earned seven national titles, 62 North Central Conference titles, 110 national appearances, five conference All-Sport Trophies and the inaugural NCC Cup to their credit. Three Bison competitors have been named the Honda Broderick Division II Most Outstanding Female Athlete, five received the NCC's Stan Marshall Award and there have been 131 All-Americans in six sports since 1981. The prestigious NCAA Top VIII Award was earned by an outstanding Bison female student-athlete. Ms. Dorn has also received personal recognition for her contributions to NDSU's success including being named one of the five most influential people in Division II athletics by College Sports magazine in 1995, Women's Basketball Coaches Association Administrator of the Year in 1997 and one of seven administrator's of the year in 2002 by the National Association of Collegiate Women Athletic Administrators. Most recently Ms. Dorn was honored by the establishment of a $100,000 endowment in her name, which is awarded to women athletes pursuing a career in coaching or sport administration. While at BSU, Ms. Dorn participated in field hockey, volleyball, basketball and tennis. She was inducted into the BSU Athletic Hall of Fame in 1994 and was selected as one of the top 30 female athletes during the 30th Anniversary Celebration of Women's Athletics at BSU in 2000. Ms. Dorn makes her home in Fargo, ND.
