Dr. James Kraby

Bemidji State University Graduate 1962

After four years in the United States Air Force, Dr. Kraby received his Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics from Bemidji State College in 1962, completed a Master of Science degree from Western Michigan University in 1966, and his EdD in Educational Administration from the University of Minnesota in 1972. He taught mathematics for four years at Osseo Junior High in Osseo, MN, five years at North Hennepin Community College, and was Dean of Academic Instruction at Itasca Community College for three years. He served as President of Westark Community College in Fort Smith, AR for eight years, Central Arizona College in Casa Grande, AZ for three years and at Umpqua Community College in Roseburg, OR for 15 years. Dr. Kraby was appointed to the Advisory Council for Career and Vocational Education for the State of Oregon, the Arizona State Council of Vocational Education, and was a member of the statewide Coordinating Committee for JTPA, AR. He is a member of Lion?s Club, National Exchange, Rotary, and has been a member of the United Way boards in Roseburg, OR, and Fort Smith, Casa Grande, and Pinal County, AZ. In addition, he chaired the United Way Campaign and was on the Chamber of Commerce in Roseburg, OR. He has also served on various foundation boards. After working in education for 38 years, Dr. Kraby retired in June of 2000 and lives in Goodyear, AZ with his wife of 50 years, Patricia. They have four children who all currently reside in Phoenix, AZ.
