Denis Sauter

Bemidji State University Graduate 1970

Denis Sauter received a Bachelor of Science Degree from Bemidji State University in 1970, with majors in Speech and Theater and a minor in English. While a student at BSU, Denis played on the men?s national championship hockey team and was a member of the Theta Tau Epsilon Fraternity. He was chosen for Who?s Who in College in 1969. After graduating from BSU, Denis went on to earn a Masters Degree in English from the University of Minnesota at Duluth in 1973. Denis currently teaches English and Speech at Carlton High School, a job he has held for the past thirty-one years. He was selected as Teacher of the Year in 2001-2002. In addition to his teaching responsibilities, Denis has also directed the school musicals for thirty-one years, served as athletic director for five years, and served on the Minnesota State High School League Athletic Director Advisory Board for three years. He was a member of the Carlton re-licensure committee for fifteen years, a member of the Carlton Staff Development Committee for fifteen years, serving as its director for ten of those years, and also a member of the Northeastern Staff Development Advisory Board member for ten years. He was recently elected to the Teachers Advisory Board for the North Central Regional Educational Laboratory. Denis coached track at Carlton High for eight years, served as a Minnesota high school league hockey official for twenty years and as a Minnesota high school league volleyball official for twenty-eight years. As a community member, Denis has served on the Carlton County Community Theater Board and has been a member of the Carlton County Lions Club. Denis and his wife Anne, also a BSU alum, live in Carlton, MN and have five children.
