Patrick McCullough

Bemidji State University Graduate 1967

After graduation from high school, Pat McCullough enlisted in the army and served a two-year tour of duty as a para-trooper. He then returned to Minnesota and graduated from Bemidji State College in 1967 with a Bachelor of Science degree in psychology and sociology. Following that, he attended William Mitchell College of Law and received his Jurist Doctorate in 1971. Upon passing the Minnesota State Bar that year, Pat opened up his own law practice in St. Paul, Minnesota. It has grown into the firm McCullough, Smith Wright & Kempe, P.A., of which he is the senior partner. His firm specializes primarily in personal-injury litigation and family law. He is one of 100 attorneys nationwide, and the only one from Minnesota, who have been selected as a member of the American College of Family Trial Lawyers. His colleagues have also named Pat as a Leading Attorney in each of his fields of concentration, a designation attributed to approximately five percent of practicing attorneys. Additional professional recognitions include a Martindale Hubbell listing at A/V (Very High to Preeminent), a listing in the Best Lawyers of America, a listing in Law and Politics as a Super Lawyer, and a listing in Markham's Negligence Council. Pat also served as the attorney for the Phalen Area Community Council for approximately 20 years. He served a term as president of that organization, as well as holding all other elected offices. He has been intricately involved in the St. Paul Winter Carnival for many years, including serving as the East Wind in 1975 and as King Boreas in 1999. In addition to his role as attorney, Pat and his wife, Marlys, a 1968 BSU graduate, raised two children and now live on a ranch in rural Stillwater where they raise a herd of approximately 700 registered Charolais cattle.
