- Teacher at Hibbing High School, 1962-1963.
- M.A. in History and Ph.D. in Middle East History, Indiana University, 1967 and 1973.
- Teacher, Clemson University, South Carolina, for one year.
- Professor, University of Kentucky.
- Elected to the Administrative Council of the Institut Kurde de Paris, the leading international institution concerned with Kurdish affairs.
Personal Achievements/Awards
- Has authored nine books, and written 120 research articles and essays, contributed to 14 books, delivered 60 professional papers and 130 book reviews.
- Has lectured at most of the leading universities in Europe, the Middle East, and the United States.
- Has raised two wonderful daughters.
Humanitarian Service
- Joined the Peace Corps, served in Turkey from 1963-1965.
