Lori Hutchins

Bemidji State University 1979 Graduate


Lori Hutchins graduated from Bemidji State in 1979 with a degree in physical education and health. While at BSU, Lori was a four sport athlete participating in basketball, volleyball, track & field and swimming. During her four years as a basketball letter winner, Lori was selected to the MinnKota All-Conference team every year and to the AIAW All-Tournament team her junior year. She was the team scoring leader all four years, the rebound leader her last three years and continues to hold the BSU single season rebound record with twenty-four. For her success on the court, Lori was drafted #6 by the Iowa Cornets of the WBA following her senior year at BSU. She was named to the Women's Collegiate Basketball All-American Team as an Honorable Mention by the National Scouting Association in 1979.  Lori's athletic talents were not limited to the basketball court. She was also a four-year letter winner on the track & field team, anchoring the two-mile relay for a fifth place finish at the AIAW Regional 6 Track and Field Championships in 1977.  During her four-years on the volleyball team, she was selected to the MinnKota All-Conference team twice.  In her one year on the BSU swimming team, Lori took first in both the 50 and 100 yard breaststroke at the all Minnesota Intercollegiate State Meet and was a national qualifier in both the breaststroke and medley relay. In 2000, Lori was selected as one of the top 30 Female Athletes at BSU and in 2001 she was named a Bemidji High School Outstanding Female Athlete.  Lori has taught and coached for many years since graduating from BSU, and currently resides in Duluth, Minnesota where she works with special needs students.
